Joint Concert Proposal for Fall/Winter 2010
The board is considering the possibility of doing a
joint fall/winter concert with the STOCtet,
directed by our director, Kevin
(click here to visit the stoc website).
We have completed the survey of the membership regarding the idea and
you can view the full survey results by clicking
HERE.
The bottom line is that we received strong support for the idea of
planning a joint concert with Stoctet for the Fall/Winter session this year.
The board subcommittee is considering your preferences and concerns
and is working on a plan that will try to balance the wishes of
the membership while working within the logistical constraints of
planning a joint concert.
The plan will be distributed soon for membership review.
Here's a quick summary of the survey results:
-
About 85% of you were either supportive of a joint concert or
were flexible enough to go either way.
-
A large majority (83%) of the members don't mind giving up
the "specials" to allow time for joint concert numbers.
-
A large number (47%) don't like the idea of doing only one
performance of the joint concert (a single night).
The rest like it or don't care either way.
-
About 60% of you don't like the idea of doing a matinee (afternoon)
performance in addition to an evening performance.
There were a number of concerns expressed in the open comment sections.
These included concerns about the finances and the logistics of doing
a large concert, plus some concern about the impact of a
joint concert on our loyal audience.
We will try to address as many of these concerns as we can in the planning.
New Ticket Policy
The ticket prices have increased to help offset increased costs
associated with a larger membership.
The presale prices are $13 (General) and $10 (Senior or Student) now
and the door prices are $15 (General) and $12 (Senior or Student).
Also, in order to manage the seating in the venue, we are begining
a new policy of selling tickets for a specific night.
The tickets will be clearly marked and audience members who show up
on a night not marked on their tickets will not be seated until five
minutes before the concert begins, assuming there are even seats
available.
There is the possibility that an audience member holding a ticket for
the wrong night may be turned away if we are at capacity.
SO ... check with your guests and make sure you sell them tickets for
the correct night.
Because this is a change to old time habits,
it is your responsibility to make sure
the new policy is communicated to your friends.
Summer Session Pre-registration
Pre-registration for the summer session will occur in the
last two weeks of March.
Plan on pre-registering to hold your place in the summer session.
Current members who do not pre-register can register on the first rehearsal
night of the new session if there are spots still available.
If no spots are available, your name will go on the end of the
waiting list for the next session.
The theme for the summer session is love songs.
Costumes for Spring Concert
The group voted on the costumes at the last rehearsal.
The costume motif is white tops with gold accessories and
black bottoms. It's kind of an oscar-night look.
More details about shirt style, etc. will be posted soon.
Music Changes
In the song "It's a Grand Night for Singing" the final 5 measures on page 5
have notes that have been changed to create a more filled final chord.
Be sure to mark these in your score. You can ask your neighbor or if you
read music, you can see the changes in
this excerpt.
In the song "Strike Up the Band" there have been some lyric changes.
On page 7 at measure 49 the old lyrics were:
There is work to be done, to be done!
There's a war to be won, to be won!
Come, you son of a son of a gun, take your stand!
These have been changed to:
There is work to be done, to be done!
There are parts to be run, to be run!
Come on out every one every one, join the band!
Please mark your music so that you will sing the correct words.
